Dense Indonesian basalt paving on a commercial plaza
Volcanic basalt

Basalt Stone

The tight-grained counterpart to lava stone: denser, less porous and more uniform. Specified where a dark stone must meet technical performance requirements for commercial paving and rainscreen facades.

Dense, dark and dimensionally hard — the technical dark stone.

Where black lava stone is chosen for its open, characterful porosity, dense basalt is chosen for the opposite reason: a tight grain, low absorption and very uniform appearance. It is the more technical of the two dark stones.

Its hardness suits commercial and public paving, stair treads with heavy use, and mechanically fixed facade panels. It also resists staining better than lava stone, which makes it a safer specification for interior floors in hospitality projects.

Available in calibrated tile, large-format cut-to-size and thicker paving sections, with flamed and bush hammered finishes carrying high wet slip ratings.

Questions

Basalt Stone — FAQ

Yes. With water absorption typically under 2 % it performs well in Northern Europe, Canada and higher-altitude markets. Request the test data with your quotation if your specification requires documented values.

Up to 600 × 1200 mm as standard, larger subject to block size. For mechanically fixed systems send the bracket detail so we can machine kerfs or undercut anchor holes.
