The tight-grained counterpart to lava stone: denser, less porous and more uniform. Specified where a dark stone must meet technical performance requirements for commercial paving and rainscreen facades.
Where black lava stone is chosen for its open, characterful porosity, dense basalt is chosen for the opposite reason: a tight grain, low absorption and very uniform appearance. It is the more technical of the two dark stones.
Its hardness suits commercial and public paving, stair treads with heavy use, and mechanically fixed facade panels. It also resists staining better than lava stone, which makes it a safer specification for interior floors in hospitality projects.
Available in calibrated tile, large-format cut-to-size and thicker paving sections, with flamed and bush hammered finishes carrying high wet slip ratings.
